1. Skyroot
Skyroot achieved two significant milestones in 2022. The startup raised $50.5 million in September as part of its Series B funding round, making it the most-funded private space startup in India. In November, Skyroot became the first private space startup to launch a rocket from India, setting the stage for potential orbital launches in 2023. Skyroot plans to achieve two satellite launches per month by 2025.
2. Pixxel
Pixxel launched its first satellite in 2021, followed by its second the following year. The company has received funding from global investors and plans to launch six more satellites. In 2023, Pixxel aims to start providing data to commercial customers and has already signed deals with companies such as Rio Tinto. The startup could become a leading player in the satellite surveillance, imaging, and data analytics industries.
3. Agnikul
Two Indian startups, Skyroot and Agnikul, are competing to become regular commercial satellite launchers. Agnikul has established its own ground station and mission control room on the grounds of Isro. It also opened a rocket engine manufacturing facility in July 2022. Agnikul is the only private startup with its own assembly line to make its robots, without needing to partner with a vendor. Agnikul is one of the most important space startups to watch. They also intend to launch their “space taxis,” which are space shuttles capable of moving satellites from one orbit to another, by 2024.
